Terrace Bench

In one day, build a 1-metre outdoor bench in kotibe timber: sturdy, slatted and demountable to suit any terrace or garden.

Your project

A terrace bench built to last.

You'll work with kotibe, a species ideal for outdoor use, and create a 1-metre-long bench with a uniquely designed slatted surface. You'll learn to prepare the wood, size it precisely, join it using different techniques and give it the final finish. Best of all: it's demountable, so you can take it home and assemble it wherever you fancy.

Terrace Bench — the finished piece
Step by step

How you're going to do it.

In a single day you'll cover the whole build, from rough timber to a bench ready for your terrace.

01
Preparing the wood

Work the kotibe timber with the jointer and thicknesser to get pieces that are flat and at the exact thickness.

02
Sizing and cutting

Use the panel saw and mitre saw to cut each slat with the precision a well-made outdoor bench demands.

03
Joinery techniques

Learn different joinery techniques to bring the bench's structure together solidly and durably.

04
Sanding and finishing

Apply the sanding and the final finish to protect the wood and bring out the natural tone of the kotibe.
