Level 1.5 — Solid Oak Shelving Unit
The natural step between Level 1 and Level 2: in 20 hours you build a Scandinavian-inspired solid oak shelving unit while mastering more advanced cabinetmaking techniques.
A solid oak shelving unit, from start to finish.
Level 1.5 is a course built around a real project: a solid European oak shelving unit with clean, timeless lines that you'll take home with pride. Coming from Level 1, it's the perfect bridge to Level 2; and if it's your first course, you can start here too — we guide you step by step.

What you'll learn.
Every part of the project is designed to teach you a new technique while reinforcing what you learned in Level 1.
You set up the Pantorouter and produce repeatable dovetails — clean and well fitted: one of cabinetmaking's most iconic joints.
You fix the shelves with screws for strength and make bespoke wooden plugs that hide them, blended into the oak's grain.
You handle the Festool Domino joiner to create mortise-and-tenon joints that are fast, strong and perfectly aligned.
You make tapered legs that lend the piece lightness and create a shadow gap between the legs and the body — a detail of high-end contemporary furniture.
You prepare the surface and apply a protective varnish that brings out the oak's natural grain and protects the piece for everyday use.
